Well, this isn’t entirely relevant to the theme of this blog, but that’s ok! For the month of April I’m participating in the 30 Day Song Challenge, inspired by a Facebook friend of mine who started it a few days ago.
I’m not a person of favourites. I dislike the exclusivity of it, and my ‘favourites’ change constantly, except that 9 is my favourite number. Always has been and always will be, for various reasons (perhaps a post on that some time). Starting right off the bat with my favourite song is hard. I had several songs that were recent favourites, but were SO extremely overplayed on the radio here that I can hardly stand them anymore. I supposed then, that a favourite is one that stands the test of time, or more importantly, the test of repetition. I’m sure I’m over thinking it, but I see this more as ‘Your Favourite Song of All Time’.
I hummed and hawed over this decision for a while this morning, then it hit me. Nothing stands the test of time and repetition more than classic Sesame Street. No really. I love this song. LOVE. It represents so many aspects of me, especially the last year or so of my life. The wanderlust I often feel, the need to explore and urge to travel (even if I haven’t much yet), the importance of family and friends, and the discovery of all the great things in this world… it’s all captured here in this 2 1/2 minute song, and sung by a Muppet in his pajamas. Brilliance.
I am confident to say this is, at the very least, one of my favourite songs of all time.
